Georgia Flag still hot issue, as Legislature opens
|
||
|
by Mike Crane The Georgia Legislature opened on January 14, 2002 to a chorus of “No Votes For TurnCoats!” as hundreds of Georgians assembled at the capitol. There was a sea of Georgia Flags, mixed with US Flags. But the new flag forced on the citizens of Georgia by this same Legislature was strangely absent.
Of
course this comes as a surprise to very few. The “Yellow Streak rag” as it has been unofficially named does not seem to
have much in the way of support. At least not within Georgia. About the only people in Georgia willing to speak up for the
new “Yellow Streak rag” are the politicians who were bought last year squandering the State’s budget surplus. But
on the opening day of the Georgia Legislature, these politicians mostly hid from the Georgians assembled at the capitol or
ran by them as fast as possible trying to hide their name badges. Not very proud of their actions are they? The
governor, of course, sits in his office in the capitol, plotting his next “atlanta blue light special” looking for what
to place on the auction block next. Some believe that he will sell State benefits for illegal aliens and made a trip to
Mexico recently to recruit as many as he can. He is quite the salesman, as he proved last year when he sold the State Flag
supported by a large majority of Georgians. So hang on to your wallet and your water (another item it is rumored that the
governor wants to sell).

The “TRUE State Flag” demonstration was orderly and peaceful, but not quiet. In between “boos”, “No Votes For TurnCoats”, “Roy B-Gone” and “Statehood for atlanta,” you could hear a new song, “Yellow Streak of Georgia”. This new song has some interesting verses: “... Voted on by scalawags in total secrecy” and “Our countries democracy is becoming just a show”.
It seems to the writer that the Georgians have a very valid point, and that the elected officials hiding in the capitol behind an over zealous security barrier need to open their ears. These Georgians who braved cold weather on a work day are representing the very principles that our nation was founded on. The officials inside the capitol seem to be closer to King George!
