You can lead ‘em to water, but you can’t make ‘em drink!

The picture above was taken during Sonny Perdue’s campaign in Toccoa. On this campaign stop the publisher of The Truth Newspaper, R. W. Moore offered to make a video of Sonny’s speech. His staff went off like a rocket and absolutely refused. They did not want an accurate record of what he said.

When Perdue was speaking in Toccoa in April this year our publisher R. W. Moore spoke to the lying governor and asked him "which flags will we be able to vote on?" Perdue said "the pre 56 flag and the 56 flag and the Barnes flag" Mr. Moore told the governor if he did not believe the flag issue was important he should call King Rat Roy Barnes and ask him." Mr. Moore said to the governor’s face "If the citizens of Georgia are not allowed to vote on the 56 flag, you Mr. Perdue you will another one term governor. Mr. Moore can say Perdue lied

But The Truth Newspaper was concerned and issued this concern in the next issue. Did this warning ever turn out to be accurate, sure wish we could do as good on picking horses or stocks!

Well it turns out that neither his public nor his private pledges were worth anything. Some will say he just did not tell the truth, some will say he lied. In our book, we say he is just another arrogant politician who has lied to get votes and then tramples the people who supported him. At least that is our statement when we need to polite and Ladies may be reading.

Of course Sonny blamed it on the Legislature. Said that they did it and he could not interfere in the Legislative process. Another lie! He vetoed over 20 other bills, so he does not hesitate to veto legislation passed when he wants to.

Lets look at his actions a bit more to get more insight into just how insincere this man has been on the issue that put him in office.

Recently the Georgia Republican Party completely revised their web-site. Since Sonny Perdue is now the official head of the Georgia Republican Party, what does this official site say about letting the People Vote?

To begin they have added the new secret State flag on the front page (http://www.gagop.org). It may be interesting that they omitted "In God We Trust" or it may turnout that it is disgusting. Only time will tell on that. But didn’t Perdue discredit Barnes for forcing a secret flag on Georgians? But now he is doing the same thing. He said he would be different, he lied!

Continuing a review of their new web-site ran across this quote from their new: "Declaration of a New Day in Georgia: "

On the final night of the session, the House decided to omit the controversial second referendum and let the new flag face the present blue flag in a head-to-head match up on the 2004 Presidential Preference Primary ballot. The Senate agreed and the Governor is expected to sign the bill. When he does, Georgia will have a pretty new flag that the voters can confirm or reject at the ballot box. If the new flag design is rejected, we will return to the blue flag.

Unlike two years ago, the people, through their representatives in an open legislative process, were involved in the new design. I believe this fulfills the campaign promise of the Governor and will ultimately put the flag issue to bed once and for all.

This is in their words.

Some New Day! Look at what they are saying: "the people, through their representatives in an open legislative process, were involved in the new design." Yeah right! The only so-called public hearing did NOT allow public comment. Their pretty new flag was developed in secret meetings, not in public!

This claim that the new secret flag was developed in public is just a hoax and cover up. It means that officially the Republicans are no more willing to be honest and open than Barnes was. The large segment of the population of Georgia that wants to Vote On OUR Flag only gets a new flavor of lies. Instead of the Democrat open hostility displayed by Barnes we are getting Republican whimpism as practiced by Sonny Perdue.

Now some may not be able to understand what "once and for all" means. To me it is pretty clear what the official Republican Party position has been, is and will be. I remember talking to some of the Representatives just after the brokered vote in the house that cost us our referendum. They felt like the rug had been jerked out from under them.

Just a few weeks before they had mustered a 62% vote to give us a referendum. Then poof, that margin vanished.

Lets take a look at this New Day in Georgia - Perdue style of government.

Democrat Rep. Smyre openly admitted that there were secret meetings going on the night before the final vote in the House, these included corporate lobbyists, but not our folks. Republican Senator Price publicly offered and stated that "his chamber" would vote to remove the referendum. Now this is a strange pair working together!

Look at their own words though, first from Democrat Smyre:

Democrats have today to pull together a winning coalition. "Right now, there is no deal," said House Caucus Chairman Calvin Smyre of Columbus, who is also chairman of the state Democratic Party.

Then look at this from Republican Senate Majority Leader Price speaking about Smyre’s attempts to eliminate Our Vote:

But if the effort is successful, Senate Majority Leader Tom Price said his chamber is willing to go along. He and six other Republicans voted against the same portion of the Perdue referendum this week.

Take a look at Perdue’s June 30 and Dec. 31 campaign reports and the $5,000, $10,000 and $15,000 contributions and the Atlanta Chamber statement that they were successful in lobbying the "new governor and legislature."

Here are a few samples from the campaign finance reports provided by the Division of Elections:

Sea Island Company $15,000

Lawyer Troutman Sanders $15,000

The Sun Trust Good Government Group $10,000

Atlanta developer Tom Cousins $10,000

Former Gov. Carl Sanders’ law firm $5,000

Microsoft $5,000

Georgia Oilmens Association, $5,000

Coca Cola Company $5,000

Southtrust Corp. $5,000.

Service Corporation International $5,000

McKenna Long & Aldridge $5,000

Wonder if the sudden support for the tobacco tax and sudden increase in corporate contributions were part of this public input on the resulting flag bill? The Chamber brags that they were successful in preventing us from getting a vote.

From their own words:

The Metro Atlanta Chamber won about three-fourths of its agenda, most critically the flag. Given a new Governor and new legislative leadership, this was a great achievement.

Therefore the statement from the Republican Party, "I believe this fulfills the campaign promise of the Governor and will ultimately put the flag issue to bed once and for all" says a lot.

So there you have an example of the Sonny Perdue style of government. Lie to the people to get their support. Once in office, buddy up to the liberal Atlanta politicians and large corporations. At least Barnes admitted what he did wrong. Sonny Perdue tries to blame it on the Legislature. No wonder he has earned the name "Chicken Little" Perdue.

"Put the flag issue to bed once and for all" ... They must be reading King Roy’s speeches! The issue will be put to bed when the People of Georgia get to Vote! How many one term governors will that take – To Be Determined!

Next Issue – Read the details on the tobacco tax for flag deal.
